Catherine Golden - Bass, Double Bass, Guitar, Theory and Song Writing

LOCATION: Enmore Road, Marrickville or Stanmore (private home studio)
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Music with Honours, AMEB

MORE INFO: Catherine has a passion for music and also for passing on musical knowledge, having taught guitar and bass to children and adults since 2009. Bringing a fun yet dedicated approach to music lessons, lessons are designed to lead students to becoming well-rounded, knowledgeable and skilled musicians in order to achieve their goals with music. Packed into each lesson is the philosophy, skill and theory gained through 16 plus years of live music experience, Bachelor of Music studies as well as AMEB syllabi.

Catherine Golden is a double bassist, guitarist, electric bassist, composer and recognised songwriter with 16 years experience in playing live in the Sydney music scene (Golden began performing in indie bands on Sydney stages at the tender age of 16). During this time she has both initiated and joined rock/pop, folk, classical, funk and jazz groups, performing both original music and covers/standards. She is also a singer-songwriter and was a finalist in the Indie category of the 2006 UK International Songwriting Competition.

Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Music at the University of Western Sydney in 2012, where she majored in Performance and Composition, Golden was awarded the Deans Medal for outstanding scholarship and also the Marianne Rosenberg Award for outstanding scholarship in Musicology. In 2013, she completed her self-directed Honours research thesis Neoliberalism, Live Music and the Performing Arts: The Red Rattler. With a Sydney-focus and using Marrickville's Red Rattler Theatre as a case-study, Golden posited that volunteer-based, DIY underground warehouse venues subvert the creativity-constraining modes of advanced capitalism. In addition to graduating with First Class Honours, Golden was also awarded the University Medal for this research.

As well as performing live and working as a session musician, Catherine has also taught guitar and bass to children and adults since 2009 and double bass since 2013. Currently teaching from her home studio, she draws upon her own studies (AMEB and university) as well as her live music experience to formulate lesson plans for musicians of all levels. Golden currently performs regularly with Sydney-based bands Dusty Ravens and wedding/function band The Party Starters, as well as early music group Musica Antiqua Sydney and the Leichhardt Wind Orchestra.
